Got Your Back San Diego (Feeding Kids First) was the April non-profit organization selected by the National Project Division for the San Diego Bergelectric Charitable Foundation.  It was a true pleasure meeting with the founders, Bill and Sue McLeod during our tour of the property and food pantry. We learned a lot about Got Your Back San Diego and the amazing services they provide to the children and families of North County, San Diego.  Our San Diego office was able to gather up enough food to fill up the back of a truck bed.

Got Your Back San Diego was originally started in 2010 by small business owners and former pastors, Bill and Sue McLeod.  Got Your Back San Diego (GYB) is a weekend food assistance program developed specifically for children who depend on school lunch programs for their primary source of nutrition Monday through Friday and have little to nothing of any nutritional value to eat on weekends.

Each week throughout the school year, volunteers come together to fill backpacks with 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 dinners, and a few healthy snacks, enough food to sustain a child through the weekend. The backpacks are delivered to schools and discretely distributed to the children in need by a designated GYB liaison.

Ways You Can Get Involved

  • Directly volunteer with the organization in one of their many opportunities; packing backpacks, collecting donations, and delivering filled backpacks.
  • Sponsor a food drive
  • Host a fundraiser
