The Bergelectric Charitable Foundation recently made a $4,000 monetary donation to the Gently Hugged non-profit organization in San Diego, CA.

The founders, two public health nurses, saw firsthand the challenges families face in meeting basic needs, particularly with a new baby. Many babies lack essential clothing and blankets during their first year. Gently Hugged collects gently used or new baby clothes (Preemie to 12 months), along with blankets, hats, socks, and bibs. These items are laundered, inspected, sorted, and packed into labeled bags for boys or girls.

Nurses and social workers distribute the completed bags to low-income, military, immigrant, and foster families in underserved areas, through hospitals, prenatal clinics, social service agencies, and homes.

In 2024 alone, Gently Hugged distributed over 900 bags of baby clothing. Based in Poway, the organization recently opened a new location in Carlsbad.
