On September 6th, we had the incredible honor of participating in RocSolid Build Day Los Angeles where Bergelectric volunteers helped to build a playset for Ryan, a courageous 4-year-old bravely battling leukemia. Ryan has a passion for the color blue, loves lions, adores the beach, and is a big fan of his Nintendo Switch. From the very first moment we visited his home, his enthusiasm was utterly infectious. His mother, Christina, shared touching stories of how Ryan eagerly kept saying he couldn’t wait for “that man to come back with more people with my gift.”
On Build Day, eight dedicated Bergelectric volunteers gathered bright and early, fueled by Ryan’s spirit. After being warmly welcomed by his family, we split into teams and started assembling every piece of the playset with care. As we completed each subsection, we joined forces to raise the fort, working together to bring the vision to life.
When the big reveal finally arrived, we blindfolded Ryan, surrounding him with his loving mom, dad, and brother. With a shared countdown, we unleashed a flurry of confetti as we lifted the blindfold. The moment Ryan laid eyes on his brand-new playset was pure magic—his face lit up with joy. Initially a bit shy under the spotlight, it wasn’t long before he was gleefully climbing and sliding, embodying the carefree spirit of childhood. The gratitude from his family was palpable, and Ryan made it a point to high-five each volunteer, sharing his excitement.
This day went beyond simply constructing a playset; it was about fostering joy, hope, and creating a special space where Ryan can simply be a kid. It served as a beautiful reminder of the strength of community, and we are profoundly grateful to have been part of this heartwarming experience.
